The Air Force Association Gerrity Chapter, in cooperation with the Tinker Heritage Foundation and the Charles B. Hall Chapter, Tuskegee Airmen Incorporated, have committed to the establishment of a memorial to Major Charles B. Hall and his fellow Tuskegee Airmen. The Tuskegee Airmen were the U.S. Army Air Corps’ first all-Negro unit. Major Hall is the former Tuskegee Airmen who has the distinction of being the first black man to shoot down an enemy plane; a German Focke-Wulf 190. After the war, Major Hall moved to Oklahoma. Until his death in 1971, he served at Tinker Air Force Base, working for the Federal Aviation Administration in Oklahoma City, OK. |

Establishment of a memorial to Major Hall and the Tuskegee Airmen was first attempted in 2001, with the naming of Tinker Air Force Base’s Airpower park after Major Hall and a site dedication (see pictures below). Unfortunately, this memorial project remained dormant until 2005 with the Air Force Association’s local Gerrity Chapter voting to complete the Major Charles B. Hall Tuskegee Memorial. Now in 2007 the Gerrity Chapter of the Air Force Association and the Charles B. Hall Chapter of the Tuskegee Airmen completed the legacy to these heros. |
